Tiffany spoke to my 10th grade engineering class about her position as Senior Manager of Quality and Continuous Improvement. While some of my students are clear about the engineering field they’d like to pursue, very few of them have access to professionals who are in the positions they desire to have. Furthermore, without those examples, they are also limited to the fields, careers, and opportunities that have gained the most popularity. By sharing her journey from college to career, she helped them see what is possible as an industrial engineer. She also demonstrated the diversity of thought and background that exists in corporate engineering positions. Tiffany’s presentation was informative and engaging. She understood the developmental phase of my students and created opportunities for them to engage in conversation and actively participate. There were videos and a very candid Q&A session afterward. She navigated the Q&A respond to students without sharing proprietary or confidential information. The students (and I) enjoyed her visit. I will not hesitate to ask her to return as a guest speaker.
